Grown-Up Gloss: Love It, Wear It, Pout It!

Grown-Up Gloss: Love It, Wear It, Pout It!

Aveda is pretty much a rock star when it comes to natural beauty products, so it's no surprise I'm absolutely obsessed with its new (sophisticated!) Nourish-Mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze. It's a lip gloss that actually gives a sexy oomph to your daytime look without being in-your-face shiny or sticky. After all, blinding the boss with your gloss isn’t the most professional approach to workplace makeup.

Infused with plant emollients and pomegranate for a smoothing and hydrating effect, it immediately hides and heals chapped lips, a task few other glosses can complete.

I’m loving Ginger Lily, a toned-down but still sultry substitution for a bright red lipstick. The Agave Nectar shade offers a nude sheen for fans of pale tones. And while I have yet to find a gloss that stays put all day, this one does a decent job of staying on my lips (and not my cup!) during an afternoon latte.

Available in 12 shades, from Scarlet to Neutral Nectar, Aveda Nourish-Mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze can be found at aveda.com for $18.

Meet Alicia Silverstone at Her the Kind Diet Book Event Tuesday!

NEWS FLASH: “Diet” doesn’t have to be a four-letter word, if you know what I mean. Diets can actually be pretty darn kind—and not just to your body.

Confused? You don’t have to be. Alicia has spelled it all out in her The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet. Now out in paperback, her kind cookbook offers tons of appetizing meat-and dairy-free recipes to help you lose weight, look younger, and save the environment. No a bad deal, eh?

The typical American diet not only consists of (way) oversized portions, but also relies on excessive food products or toxins. By going au naturel with balanced plant-based meals, you get tons of fiber, while cutting cholesterol and calories big time.

If you’re at all curious about getting healthy and cutting animal products out of your diet, definitely check out Alicia's The Kind Diet, or meet her in person at the Kind Diet Events listed below:

Meatless Monday: Make Your St. Patty’s Day Even Greener

Meatless Monday: Make Your St. Patty’s Day Even Greener

When you go green this St. Patrick’s Day, make it about more than just the color of your shirt or the dye in your beer. We mean food that’s as good for the planet as it is your potluck. Cooking meatfree meals –even if you get in the habit of doing it just one day a week—can help knock down energy consumption in a big way. Producing a single pound of beef requires 10 times the water used to make a pound of soy tofu. Similarly, 40 calories of fossil fuel energy go into each calorie of feed lot beef, while plant-based protein requires only 2.2 calories.

But don’t worry that serving up more eco-friendly eats this St. Patty’s day will make your revelers miss their lamb stew, corned beef, or coddle. Irish eyes will surely be smiling when you whip up these healthy twists on the classics. The meatless recipes below yield warm and hearty comfort foods to pair with your favorite Irish stout.
